PM Skerrit meets NEPO for Hurricane Season preparedness | Dominica News

PM Skerrit and NEPO reviewed emergency readiness and coordination measures to strengthen Dominica’s hurricane season response.

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit hosted an official meeting with members of the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO), following the announcement of the start of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Prime Minister Skerrit engaged with the group where they assessed and discussed Dominica’s readiness and preparedness for the 2026 season.  

This pivotal meeting took place on June 4, 2026, and was attended by different committee heads from the Office of Disaster Management, the Meteorological Service, Health, Welfare and Relief Supplies, Shelter, Food and General Supplies. Moreover, the meeting was also attended by heads from Environmental Protection, Transportation and Evacuation department, the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service, the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force and public utility companies.  

According to Dr. Skerrit, the discussions were centred on each sector’s readiness as well as the coordination between the sectors to ensure smooth responses to emergencies and strengthened measures to protecting the citizens’ lives and properties.  

Prime Minister Skerrit shared highlights of the meeting on Facebook, underscoring its importance in determining the future of the country’s response measures and disaster management operations.  

“We are strengthening coordination among key departments and agencies to ensure the country remains prepared for potential impacts throughout the season,” wrote Prime Minister Skerrit.

This interaction follows the announcement of the beginning of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season by the Dominica Meteorological Services on Monday, June 1, 2026, which has predicted the season to be below normal with an average of 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.  

Despite the positive outlook, the Government of Dominica has urged the citizens to take precaution and ensure they are adhering to the necessary protocols and are well updated in case of any changes.
