Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Karin Sullivan discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and U.S. investment in Dominica.
Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit held a high-level diplomatic meeting with U.S. Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Barbados, Karin Sullivan, on Thursday last week, where the two discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation, including exploring opportunities for American businesses in the nation’s infrastructure sector.
This meeting took place during Karin Sullivan’s official visit to Dominica on Thursday, July 23, where she handed over three U.S.-funded disaster management facilities. The facilities included two emergency operation centres and one disaster warehouse, having a combined value of more than US$3 million.
During the handover ceremony, the Charge d'Affaires also pledged US$2.1 million for the construction of a new fire and ambulance station in the La Plaine community.

In his address, Prime Minister Skerrit underscored the importance of the Dominica-U.S. relationship, describing it as one that is built on shared values, mutual respect and a commitment to building a safe and more resilient region. He further assured the diplomat that Dominica will continue being a friend to the U.S. as they continue strengthening their strategic partnership.
Dominica stands with the United States always and the United States can count on Dominica as a true transparent friend in all efforts of your national development and our joint efforts at addressing global issues, affirmed the Prime Minister.
Skerrit extended his gratitude to the United States for its continued support and investments which have and continue to play a great role in strengthening the country’s security, disaster preparedness and other key areas of national development.
We deeply appreciate the continued assistance of the United States government, particularly in areas like infrastructure, capacity building and disaster preparedness for national security, and I dare say we cannot write the history of national security in Dominica and not have several paragraphs and pages assigned to the United States of America, expressed Skerrit.
The National Leader further asserted, “Without you, the Caribbean would not be as safe as it is today and do not ever underestimate your contributions to our national security and regional security.”
Dr. Skerrit has reaffirmed the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening its diplomatic ties with the United States.
