Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has praised Opposition Leader Jesma Paul-Victor for her mature and constructive response to Dominica’s 2026/2027 Budget.
Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, has extended his sincere appreciation to Opposition Leader Jesma Paul-Victor for her constructive response to the 2026/2027 National Budget Address, stating that it showcased commitment to Dominica’s development. This follows Jesma Paul-Victor's review of the National Budget, which she praised, describing it as both thoughtful and balanced.
Speaking in parliament during the budget debate, Opposition leader Jesma Paul-Victor provided her ministerial performance assessment where she ranked Prime Minister Skerrit in the "Excellent / Meets Expectations" category, giving him an execution rate of 104.3 per cent. The assessment also highlighted the major national projects that have progressed under the Prime Minister’s leadership, noting that his implementation is strong and responsible.
Execution: 104.3%. A very strong implementation record. Spending exceeded the approved allocation by approximately EC$15.3 million, indicating that major flagship projects under the Prime Minister’s portfolio progressed rapidly, she noted.
Following her assessment, Prime Minister Skerrit met with the Leader of Opposition to personally express his appreciation. Skerrit then took to Facebook to share a picture of the meeting where he praised the opposition leader and described her response as balanced, mature and well-considered.

On his post, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of working together for Dominica’s continued growth and development.
I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Jesma Paul-Victor. I have always maintained that the best way to build a stronger Dominica is through collaboration, mutual respect and moving past blind partisanship, stated Prime Minister Skerrit.
He further added, “Even where our perspectives differ, the Opposition Leader’s approach today demonstrated that our nation’s politics is capable of being elevated, civil and focused on the public good. That level of maturity is precisely what every Dominican needs and expects from its parliamentarians.”
Dr. Skerrit has expressed that the Government of Dominica remains committed to constructive dialogue and collaboration that will bring tangible benefits to the citizens, emphasizing that national progress and development belong to Dominicans, not a single political party.
Agreeing with Prime Minister Skerrit, citizens took to the comment section to praise the Leader of Opposition for her constructive response, sharing that if Dominica is to progress forward, leaders need to work together in the best interest of the whole nation.
