Residents were given the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns as the Government assured continued support until normalcy is restored.
Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit chaired a meeting with the residents of Antrizzle, Atkinson, the Kalinago Territory and Castle Bruce, engaging with them and providing updates of the relief measures the Government has taken and is currently implementing to assist the residents following the impacts of last Sunday’s trough system which caused severe damages to the communities.
Both meetings took place on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with the meeting with the residents of Antrizzle, Atkinson, and the Kalinago Territory being held at the Salybia Primary School.
During the meetings, PM Skerrit informed the residents that the Ministry of Public Works has been successful in repairing the damages done to the Calixte Bridge. The bridge is now reopened, restoring road access to Dix Pas, Tranto, Morpo, Good Hope, San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere.
Dr. Skerrit also gave the citizens a chance to express their thoughts, ask questions and share on ways that the Government can further support them. He listened to everyone and assured them that the Government will continue in its interventions and response efforts until stability is restored and daily routines resume.
Different Government officials, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Reginald Severin; Minister of Health and Social Services, Cavanni Laville; and Minister of National Security and Legal Affairs, Rayburn Blackmore were also present during the meetings.
The Prime Minister shared highlights of both encounters on his Facebook page where a few citizens have taken to the comment section to commend him for his commitment to supporting the citizens in time of need.
One of the residents present at the meeting wrote, “Thank you for making time to meet with us Prime Minister, the community really appreciates the work the Government is doing to help us in this difficult time.”
This update follows an on-ground assessment of the communities on Wednesday, April 29, where the Prime Minister visited the residents and listened to their concerns, pledging to help support the families and businesses.
