Two-day operation cleared abandoned vehicles from four communities, improving safety, traffic flow, and environmental conditions.
Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) has conducted a two-day derelict vehicle removal operation in the communities of Bath Estate, Goodwill, River Street and Loubiere, as part of its continued efforts to keep the communities safe.
This initiative was achieved through the Police Force’s collaboration with key government agencies, including the National Authorising Office (NAO), Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation, and Rapid Response Recovery.
Operations took place on Wednesday, June 3, and Friday, June 5, 2026, where the organisations took to the different communities and removed abandoned vehicles from public spaces, noting that they do not only pose as a health risk to the citizens of Dominica, but they also damage the environment.
The Dominica Police Force shared that derelict vehicles are a public safety concern and can also become sites that encourage illegal activities.
“Derelict vehicles can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and rodents, obstruct traffic, reduce the aesthetic appeal of communities, and may even be used to conceal criminal activities,” explained the Dominica Police Force.
The Force has also encouraged the citizens to take part in the operations, reminding the owners of the vehicles to remove them from public roads and spaces on an immediate basis.
The CDPF has extended its gratitude to the partner agencies and community members for their support and cooperation, ensuring them that the initiative will continue in the future.
“Continued efforts will be made to identify and remove abandoned vehicles throughout the island as we work together to create cleaner, safer, and more welcoming communities,” assured the Force.
Taking to Facebook, the Force shared picture highlights of the clean-up operations where many citizens have taken to the comment section to express their opinions, noting that it is a timely initiative.
A user under June-Ella Daniels commented that she is “looking forward to a less congested and more beautiful Dominica.”
Another user also shared, “Congratulations to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (Our Police) for removing obstructions and keeping traffic flowing which is one of their core duties under the Dominica Police Act.”
