Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced August 21 as nomination day and September 7 as voting day for the Roseau North by-election.
Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that the dates for the Roseau North by-election have been scheduled, with nomination day set for Friday, August 21, 2026, and voting day set for Monday, September 7, 2026. The Prime Minister has encouraged citizens in the Roseau North constituency to participate fully in the upcoming elections and exercise their democratic rights.
Both the nomination and voting dates were revealed by the Prime Minister on Sunday, August 9, 2026, as he addressed the nation live on his Facebook page and across various local media platforms.
In his public statement, the Prime Minister shared that he has engaged with President Sylvanie Burton and advised her to issue the writ formally calling the election in Roseau North, in accordance with Section 12 of the House of Assembly Elections Act, Chapter 201.
Fellow Dominicans, I have advised Her Excellency the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica to issue a writ under the public seal of the state, declaring that a by-election be held in the Roseau North constituency. This is pursuant to Section 12 of the House of Assembly Elections Act, Chapter 201, stated Prime Minister Skerrit.
The Prime Minister explained that the Roseau North by-election is necessary following the official resignation of Miriam Blanchard, which left the parliamentary seat empty. Blanchard, after nearly ten years of service, had resigned on June 12, 2026, due to medical reasons.
Dr. Skerrit cited Section 55 (3) of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica, which provides that a by-election is to be held within three months when a parliamentary seat becomes vacant, unless Parliament is dissolved before then.
He went on to explain that the democratic process “ensures that the people of Roseau North will have the opportunity to elect a representative to serve their interests in Parliament and continue the important work of national development.”
The National Leader has encouraged all eligible voters to participate in the upcoming by-elections, noting its importance in shaping the future of the constituency and country of Dominica.
I urge all eligible electors in the constituency to participate in this important democratic exercise and conduct themselves in a manner that promotes a peaceful, orderly and issue-based campaign, he stated.
He added that the Dominica Labour Party looks forward to engaging with the citizens throughout the campaign period as the Party presents a forward-looking vision for the future of Roseau North.
