Six major school projects in Dominica are up to 90% complete, with the Government reaffirming its commitment to modern education and student success.
Dominica: The Government of Dominica has shared a significant update on the construction of the six school projects in the country, announcing that the schools are now advancing toward completion with progress reaching up to 90 per cent.
This was announced by Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, Dr. Irving McIntyre during his presentation of the National Budget for the 2026/ 2027 fiscal year in Parliament on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
The Minister of Finance shared that three schools (Goodwill Secondary School, Calibishie Primary School and Thibaud Primary School) are 90 percent complete while the remaining two (Tete Morne, Bellevue Chopin and Sineku schools) are 85 percent complete.
Dr. Irving McIntyre spoke of the importance of the China-funded educational institutions for the country, sharing that they have created job opportunities but above all, they will play a great role in equipping the learners and teachers the resources needed to succeed.
In his address, the Miniter stated, “These projects have created work for more than 140 Dominicans. But the lasting value will be measured by the children who learn in modern classrooms, the teachers better equipped to teach and the young people who discover that intelligence is expressed not only through examinations, but through technical skills, creativity, problem-solving and enterprise.”
He added that the Government of Dominica will continue to invest in schools, teachers while also aiming to remove financial constraints that limit the child’s access to education. McIntyre reported that, in 2024, the Government invested more than $22.8 million in programmes that directly supported students, families and educational institutions.
“Education is not merely a social service; it is the foundation of opportunity, productivity and national progress. A country that educates its people equips them to create, innovate, and compete, thereby shaping their own future,” shared the Minister.
