The Southern Educational District concluded its 2026 Empowerment Camp, helping students build academic, social and life skills through a two-week programme.
Dominica: The Ministry of Education, HR Planning, Vocational Training & National Excellence has shared that the Southern Educational District has successfully concluded its 2026 Empowerment Camp, which targeted students needing additional academic, behavioural and social-emotional support. The initiative was held for two weeks, from July 14 to July 27, 2026, at the Newtown Primary School.
This targeted intervention was designed to equip the selected students with the necessary skills and strategies to navigate academic, social and personal challenges. The programme featured sessions on social skills, literacy, numeracy, visual and performing arts, life skills and sports; all conducted to support development.
According to the Ministry of Education, the Empowerment Camp focused on “equipping students with the skills and strategies needed to better manage their emotions and behaviours, make positive choices, build healthy relationships and grow in confidence.”
Sessions were facilitated by counsellors Adella David and Joann Rolle-Carrette, education officer for Language Arts, Decima Seraphine; and retired educator Adeline Dubois David.
The conducted sessions provided the students with a safe environment for them to “develop essential life skills, strengthen their academic abilities and build positive relationships with their peers and mentors.”
The Ministry of Education shared of this initiative on Facebook where it extended its sincere gratitude to sponsors, (Optipharm Inc., Lindo Mart, Tony's Punch, the Dominica Football Association, and the Soufriere Outdoor Centre), counsellors for their support and commitment to the success and well-being of the students.
The Ministry of Education also expressed gratitude to parents, guardians and students for making the camp a success.
