Speed humps will be installed in Coulibistrie and Tarreau from August 31 to September 5, with motorists warned of temporary traffic interruptions.
Dominica: The Ministry of Public Works, Public Utilities and Digital Economy has announced that from Monday, August 31 to Saturday, September 5, 2026, speed humps will be installed in certain areas of the Coulibistrie and Tarreau communities. Two speed humps will be installed in Coulibistrie, while one will be installed in Tarreau.
The public notice was released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, informing the public and motorists of the planned works ahead of the coming week. In the notice, the Ministry has shared that it will erect warning signs before works commence whilst also advising all motorists to be cautious when travelling.
The notice read, “Appropriate warning signs will be erected in advance of the works. Motorists are asked to take note of these new traffic-calming measures and to exercise caution when travelling through the affected areas.”
The Ministry of Public Works further added, “Motorists should also expect temporary traffic interruptions while the works are being undertaken and are asked to follow all signs and directions provided by personnel on site.”
The Ministry has also extended its apology to the public for the any inconvenience that may occur, thanking them for their patience and cooperation in strengthening road safety across the communities.
The notice was shared on Facebook, where a few citizens have taken to the comment section to express their opinions.
A user under Nadia Karam shared, “Anything that helps to reduce speeding and protect pedestrians is a positive step. Speed Limits also need to be put everywhere, with the Police monitoring the areas much more, even in the city.”
Another user also encouraged the Ministry to add more speed bumps for more safety and have the old ones repainted as they are difficult to notice during the night.
