Dominica's three athletes are competing at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Jasmine Schofield setting a national record in the 50m butterfly.
Dominica: A six-member delegation from Dominica is currently in Scotland representing the island at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games which officially commenced on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The delegation is made up of three athletes, with two competitors in athletics and one in swimming, and three dedicated officials.
Among the athletes representing the Nature Island in this year’s games is two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, Thea Lafond Gadson, who will be competing in triple jump. Lafond had the honours of carrying Dominica’s flag at the opening ceremony on Thursday.
The country is also represented by two first timers—Jasmine Schofield and Dennick Luke. Schofield is contesting the swimming event, making her the first Dominican female swimmer to compete at the games.
So far, she has given an outstanding performance as she achieved a new personal best in the 50m Butterfly and set a new national record, with a time of 31.23 seconds. The swimmer also competed in the 100 metres freestyle on Sunday, July 26, where she placed fourth, clocking 1:02.37.
Furthermore, athlete Dennick Luke will take on the men’s 400 metres hurdles, making history as the first Dominican to compete in the discipline at the Commonwealth Games.
These athletes are led by Chef de Mission Chester Letang and supported by swimming official Shamineey Walsh Dupuis and athletics official Aaron Gadson.
Commonwealth Sport Dominica and the Dominica Olympic Committee have both extended their well wishes to the delegation, taking to Facebook and encouraging them to give their all and represent their nation with pride. The sports organisations have expressed confidence in the athletes’ abilities to perform with distinction.
