Thea LaFond competes at Oslo Diamond League | Dominica News

Olympic champion Thea LaFond returns to action in Oslo, competing against top global athletes in the women’s triple jump event.

Dominica: Olympic Gold Medalist, Thea LaFond is set to compete at the Oslo Diamond League Finals today, June 10, 2026, representing Dominica in the women's triple jump entry. Thea LaFond will go head-to-head with elite athletes from both the region and international, including her primary rival, world champion Leyanis Pérez Hernández of Cuba.  

The Oslo Diamond League will take place at the Bislett Stadium (Bislett stadion) in Oslo, Norway, and will feature different men and women track and field events, including shot put, 400m Hurdles, 100m, 1,500m, etc.  

According to the programme’s schedule, participating in the Triple Jump Women Final, the Dominican Athlete will face seven athletes, including Maja Åskag of Sweden, Leyanis Pérez Hernández, Davisleydi Velazco, and Liadagmis Povea of Cuba. Moreover, the event will also feature Saly Sarr of Senegal, Ackelia Smith of Jamaica and Ivana Španović of Serbia.  

The Dominica Athletics Association has shared this announcement on its official Facebook page, extending well wishes to Thea LaFond ahead of her competition.  

In its post, the Athletics Association wrote, “Wishing our very own GOLD MEDALIST Thea Lafond all the best as she soars again in the Triple Jump Women at the Oslo Diamond League Finals tomorrow.”  

Other Athletics Clubs, such as the Aspires Athletics Club, the Kalinago Eagles Athletics Club, and the Aithon Athletics Club were also seen rallying behind her and showing their support.  

Citizens of Dominica have taken to the comment section, cheering her on and wishing her the best as she represents the country. 

A user under Bertha Joseph wrote, “Huge congratulations Thea. We're rooting for you from every corner of the world. We are Dominicans.” 

Another user, Jonathan Commodore also commented, “Wishing you the best out there, great effort and confidence at it again!”
