Thea Lafond-Gadson won gold in the women's triple jump with a 14.60m leap at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, marking her first Commonwealth title.
Dominica: Athlete Thea Lafond-Gadson has made history at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, winning her first-ever gold medal at the games. The athlete secured gold for Dominica in the Women’s Triple Jump with a leap of 14.60 meters.
This was Thea’s third time competing at the Commonwealth Games, with her other two appearances being in 2018 where she placed third and in 2022 where she won silver, with a second-place finish.
With each performance surpassing the last, Lafond’s upward trajectory is evidence of her determination, hard work and consistency which has cemented her status among the world’s elite triple jumpers.
Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has taken to Facebook to share this historic milestone for the country and congratulated the athlete for once again representing Dominica with pride and excellence on an international platform.

Two other athletes also took part in this year’s games, performing outstandingly on their Commonwealth Games debut. Jasmine Schofield who competed across four swimming events achieved two new personal bests and set two new national records—one in Women’s 50m Butterfly where she finished with a time of 31.23 seconds and another in 50m freestyle with 28.72 seconds.
Dennick Luke also performed well and placed fourth in the Men's 400m Hurdles Final with a time of 49.27 seconds.
The President of Commonwealth Sport Dominica, Billy Doctrove, has expressed immense pride in the team’s achievements. He congratulated the athletes for their performances, stating that they have left their mark and inspired the next generation of athletes in Dominica.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games took place in Scotland from July 23, 2026, and run for eleven days, with the tournament set to conclude on August 2, 2026.
