Windsor Park Lighting Handover Expected This Month | Dominica News

Windsor Park Stadium lighting upgrade in Dominica nears completion, with official handover expected before month-end to boost international sporting events.

Dominica: The Government of Dominica has reported that the lighting system at the Windsor Park Stadium is nearing completion, announcing that the official handover is expected before the month of June ends.

This announcement was shared by Prime Minister Skerrit during an official Press Conference with members of the media on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The Conference took place at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room, where Prime Minister Skerrit addressed key issues of national importance and provided updates on different ongoing national projects.

In one of his key points, the Prime Minister disclosed that all four lighting towers at the Windsor Park Stadium are up and tests have been successful. He noted that additional work needs to be done first and then the handover will take place.

The Windsor Park’s lights are up, and they are being tested. There was some successful testing and there are also some additional works that need to be done, including some cleanup and brushing up, announced the Prime Minister.

Skerrit further added, “I believe that by later this month, before the end of this month, there should be an examination of the situation and a certification of it and then an official handover.”

The Minister emphasised that no telecommunication equipment is to be installed on the upgraded lighting system, explaining that it leads to the lights collapsing.

I want to say publicly to the Ministry of Sports, I do not want any telecommunication company placing any equipment on the lights because that’s the cause of the lights collapsing during the hurricane, the Minister stressed.

This EC 13.8-million-dollar lighting upgrade project in Dominica will create new opportunities for nighttime cricket, football and other major sporting events in the region and internationally, as it is being built to meet international standards. With the lights in place, the sports facility will also be able to support world class competitions.
