Dominica’s Windsor Park Stadium lighting enters final testing, ensuring full field coverage for sports and cultural events while meeting international standards
Dominica: The Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development has shared an important upgrade on the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Lighting Project, announcing that the project has officially entered its final testing phase. The stadium lights are currently being tested and aimed to ensure every area of the playing field is adequately covered and that the stadium is meeting international standards.
This upgrade announcement was made by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports, Oscar George, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, who shared that he is pleased with the ongoing progress and that the project is expected to see completion in the next coming weeks.
The stadium is said to benefit different sports in the country, including cricket, football and other sports. According to Minister George, the last pole has already been installed, and the technicians have begun aiming the lights to ensure every part of the field has adequate light, aligning with ICC standards for cricket.
“I am very happy that we are at this stage of the project. We have men at the top of the poles, testing and aiming each individual light to ensure that they can shine on the recommended part of the playing field.”
He further declared, “This is a good place to be, and in just a couple more weeks we should be able to complete all activities related to this project. I’m very happy for Dominica in general, I’m happy for the young athletes and sportsmen that are going to be playing using these lights.”
The Windsor Park Sports Stadium will greatly boost the country sports sector, paving a way for tournaments to be conducted after dark while also enhancing the venue for the cultural activities ad national events which will be held in the future.
The Government of Dominica has also spoken of the importance of this project, noting that it will bring new opportunities and strengthen the sports industry in the country.
“The upgrade will enhance the facility, creating new opportunities for night-time sporting events and supporting the continued growth of sports in Dominica,” shared the Government.
